THE BODY · FIVE DOORS

How should we care?

The same test, read at the scale of the body.

Your body is yours to steer. Below the line, you decide. The rest of us answer for the conditions you steer in. Food you can reach. Sleep. Clean air. Care when the body fails. Someone present at the end.

Five doors. One body. From before birth to the last breath.

  1. Medicine and careWhere should care begin?Medicine is what the larger structure does, at the minimum level required, to keep the corridor open.
  2. Editing lifeWas it theirs to make? The line is not the technology. The line is what the edit does to the corridor the future person will stand in.
  3. Addiction and the mindWhen can a person no longer choose otherwise?Addiction is a corridor narrowed faster than alternatives could be widened.
  4. Enhancing the bodyWhat has the window become, and is it still itself? The operator’s modelling must be able to integrate what the augmentation delivers. Where it can, permitted. Where it cannot, refused.
  5. The end of lifeWhat is care now?The right to exit is the operator’s authority over the closing of the operator’s own window when the corridor is no longer viable.

These five are moving to their own house, bioethics.global. Until it opens, they live here.
